PORT HARCOURT—Rivers State House of Assembly, Wike, gave approval to the state governor,

Mr Nyesom Wike, to borrow another N20 billion from Access Bank, thus bringing the total money so far borrowed by the state government to N30 billion.

The governor, in his letter to the House, said the loan would be repaid from internally generated revenue, adding that it would be used to complete roads started by the previous government in the state.

The 29 state lawmakers voted in support when the Speaker of the House, Ikwuinyi Ibani, raised the matter on the floor.

The Speaker said the governor took time to explain what the money was meant for, adding that it was the duty of the House to always know what every kobo would be used for.
Some of the lawmakers who spoke lauded the governor for his efforts so far to fix roads in the state.

The House also conferred recognition on deposed Celestine Omehia as a former governor of the state.

Speaker Ibani recalled that Omehia proclaimed the 6th Assembly when he was governor.

He explained that the House was not reversing the judgment of the Supreme Court which sacked Omehia as governor of the state in 2007, saying that the House would only recognise him as governor for the period he served.
